The surface pressure cycle at the VL 1 site in WRF and observations

Click on the figure for a larger version:

Upper panel: Annual surface pressure cycles at the Viking Lander 1 site:

Model output before correction for exact VL1 location and height:

  • Black line: MarsWRF surface pressure at closest gridpoint to VL1 location (4 outputs per sol).
  • Blue dash line: 9 sol running average of the black line.

Model output after correction for exact VL1 location and height (details to appear in Guo et al., currently in review):

  • Gray line: MarsWRF surface pressure corrected for VL 1 location and height (4 outputs per sol).
  • Red dash line: 9 sol running average of the gray line.

Observations:

  • Green dash line: Polynomial fit to the VL1 pressure data (Tillman et al. 1993).

Lower panel: Residuals

  • Red: Residual of the corrected MarsWRF output (red dash line minus green dash line).
  • Blue: Residual of the MarsWRF output before correction (blue dash line minus green dash line).
